Acne Prone Skin

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting most teenagers between 16 and 19 years and up to 20% of adults. Acne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands and excess keratin production, leading to excessively oily skin that is prone to blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and cysts. Sebaceous gland activity is governed by our hormones. The oestrogens (the female hormones) suppress the sebaceous glands, whereas the androgens (the male hormones) stimulate them.

Adult acne may often be the result of a hormone imbalance in females, and it is important to have this investigated by your doctor, particularly if you have other symptoms of an hormonal imbalance such as irregular periods and/or excess body hair. The bad news is, adult acne is likely to persist all through your 20s and 30s. The good news is adult acne can be completely controlled with the Clear Skincare Acne treatment program, including the treatment of scars and skin pigmentation.
